A broad public discussion of the updated version of the national security concept has been launched in Belarus, a military analyst with the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research (BISR) Andrei Chernobai told reporters on the sidelines of the expert seminar “Ensuring National Security of the Republic of Belarus in Modern Conditions” that took place at the BISR, BelTA has learned.
The expert seminar discussed the proposed amendments to the National Security Concept. In fact, this seminar marked the beginning of a broad public discussion of the draft national security concept.
“At the Security Council meeting on 20 February, the head of state gave an instruction to hold a public discussion of the amendments to the national security concept. This discussion is already underway, the new concept is being actively covered by the media. Today we are holding an expert seminar. It is also focused on discussing the new version of the national security concept and, perhaps, today we are starting a professional discussion of the draft concept in the scientific and expert community,” Andrei Chernobai said.
In addition, the findings of the study “Public assessment of efforts to ensure the national security of the Republic of Belarus” were presented on 21 March. “Upon the order of the BISR, the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducted a nationwide telephone survey. The findings will show how people see the national security and its individual aspects, the strong and weak points in the efforts to maintain national security,” Andrei Chernobai said.
“National security is a very relevant topic. Today, the head of state has held a large meeting to assess the state of security and the work of the entire power bloc; a lot of serious questions were raised. Yet, some of the answers are already included in the draft updated concept, and today we are going to discuss them among other things,” Andrei Chernobai emphasized.
