Brest State Technical University signs agreements with five Zimbabwean universities

Brest State Technical University has signed cooperation agreements with five universities from Zimbabwe, BelTA has learned.

A Zimbabwean delegation led by Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Amon Murwira is visiting Brest State Technical University. The delegation includes representatives of various educational institutions of Zimbabwe. Cooperation agreements were signed with five of them on 15 May. Brest State Technical University will build cooperation with the Harare Institute of Technology, the Chinhoyi University of Technology, Lupane State University, Midlands State University and the University of Zimbabwe.

“We continue to develop cooperation in the areas outlined by our heads of state. We are interested in the fields of expertise where Belarus and Zimbabwe have much in common. We want to cooperate in technology, science, innovation. Belarus has significant experience in this. We have abundant mineral resources, human potential, we strive for technological independence and industrialization. In this regard, we are very interested in Belarus, because it is a leader in terms of education quality,” said Amon Murwira.

The Zimbabwean minister emphasized that his country is determined to promote deep ties with Belarus. A huge delegation that arrived in Belarus is a testimony to that. Brest State Technical University is ready to teach foreign students, implement joint educational programs, and engage in joint research.

“I think the best practices of our colleagues will be useful to us. We believe that our scientists can collaborate in Industry 4.0, digital industry, digital agriculture, IT, creation of various engineering systems. Our colleagues were very receptive to our proposals,” said Rector of Brest State Technical University Sergei Kasperovich. He added that cooperation can be promoted in all areas where Brest excels.

Three students from Zimbabwe currently study at Brest State Technical University: two guys and a girl. “This is just the beginning. We hope that the number of students will increase manifold. We have seen the interest in this. We are ready to offer all the necessary conditions for Zimbabwean students,” Sergei Kasperovich noted.

Brest State Technical University maintains contacts with about a hundred universities from the CIS countries, Asia and Europe. “It is not the number of universities that is important, but the outcomes achieved. Cooperation translates into a higher quality of training, scientific research of a different format and level, which one educational institution cannot carry out on its own if it wants to obtain the desired result. It is also important to exchange best practices, expertise and knowledge, as well as traditions, as it is a serious driver of development,” the Brest State Technical University rector emphasized.
